As many of my titles seem to be, this one is a bit misleading. You see, the “puppies” I’m referring to are actually our three full-grown dogs. Like many mothers continue to call their children “babies” well into their adult lives, we call our dogs “puppies,” and they are our fur-kids.
First, let me introduce you to Maya. I adopted Maya from the Charleston SPCA in August 2006. While we don’t know for certain, we think she’s a Lab-Pointer mix. She’s a snuggle-pup who loves: giving kisses (even when you’re not ready or sure you want them!), going to see “Grandma and Grandpa”, w-a-l-k-s, Tugs, chasing anything we throw (but doesn’t like bringing it back), and destroying stuffed animals. Her favorite human treats are yogurt, non-green fruits/vegetables (no lettuce for this pup, but bring on the bananas and carrots!) and popcorn.
Lucky, our “Golden Boy,” is a Golden Retriever-Collie mix who also might have a bit of Chow in him. Roger adopted him–also from the SPCA–before we started dating back in 2007 when Lucky was about 6 months old. Lucky is the baby of the family, and is the most laid-back (much like my husband!) He loves: squirrels, swimming, playing like a puppy (particularly with “Mr. Duck” and “Mr. Hedgehog”), people, but is also quite content to be by himself and puts himself to bed at 10 pm every night. His favorite human treats are yogurt and helping “pre-clean” the dirty dishes in the dishwasher.
Our third adopted dog is Lily, a Border Collie-Terrier mix. We didn’t plan on having three dogs, but a friend-of-a-friend needed a new home for her, and we knew we could provide. A true herder, Lily even “herds” us when we’re not quick enough to feed her or let her out into the backyard. She loves: snuggling, running, playing fetch (she brings it back!), giving kisses and playing with her big sister, Maya. Her favorite human treats are yogurt (yep, they all love it!) and beer (seriously–she tries to lick our beer bottles anytime we have some! It’s a bit ridiculous, but also quite humorous!)
Our fur-babies are a constant source of joy and love. They enrich our lives every day and I can’t imagine how dull and empty life would be without them.
Thanks for stopping by today and I hope you enjoyed meeting our pups! I hope you all have a truly fantastic weekend, and Happy Mother’s Day to all the other “Fur-Moms” out there (and human moms too!) 🙂
